The Next Era of Machine Perfusion: From Evidence to Adoption in Clinical Practice

This session examines the next phase of machine perfusion in liver transplantation by connecting clinical evidence with real-world implementation in the U.S. post-commercialization setting. It reviews insights from the Bridge to HOPE trial and the clinical and mechanistic rationale for hypothermic oxygenated perfusion (HOPE). It will then explore how viability assessment during hypothermia is evolving from descriptive observation to objective decision-making, and conclude with a discussion of the economic and operational realities of implementing perfusion.

Targeted Approaches to CMV Management: Alleviating the Patient Burden from Prevention to Refractory Disease

RSVP

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) can be a life-altering reality for patients after solid organ transplant (SOT). Limited antivirals and rising resistance make treatment a challenge. Join Drs. Deepali Kumar and Raymund R. Razonable as they share practical, evidence-based strategies to tackle the most common serious infectious complication after SOT. The faculty will be joined by a patient who will speak directly about how her transplant journey was complicated by CMV and what it means for her to navigate this challenging infection on her path towards healing.

The Highly Sensitized Patient: Prioritized and Still Waiting

Despite the increase in the transplantation rate after KAS implementation and the maturation of KPD programs, many highly sensitized candidates have disproportionately long waiting time. Even in the current era, highly sensitized are more likely to be removed from the waitlist, die, or remain wait-listed than receive a transplant within a reasonable timeframe.1 Join the experts as they define the unmet needs of highly sensitized patients and discuss potential opportunities to help reduce barriers to kidney transplantation.

Advancements in Antibody Mediated Rejection and Microvascular Inflammation of Kidney Allograft: Biology, Biomarkers, and Beyond  Antibody mediated rejection (AMR) is a leading cause of kidney allograft failure, with no approved therapies and limited evidence based treatment guidance. Advancing AMR care requires improved understanding of disease biology, early and accurate detection, and more targeted therapeutic strategies. This symposium examines the roles of CD38 expressing immune cells in AMR and microvascular inflammation, reviews emerging biomarkers for patient identification, monitoring, and treatment response, and discusses evolving CD38 targeted investigational approaches.

From Reflection to Action: Adjusting Immunosuppressive Therapy to Overcome Long-Term Therapeutic Inertia in Kidney Transplantation

RSVP

Kidney transplantation is currently the gold standard of care and provides patients with end-stage kidney disease the best chance for long-term, dialysis-free survival, but, in addition to challenges regarding organ availability, is the challenge of optimizing allograft survival over time. In this live event, the audience will have an opportunity to connect with their colleagues and experts to discuss real- world situations that can present challenges, complications, and decision points that may arise in the management of kidney transplant recipients.
